Partnership with the UK as an investment in the future of Ukraine’s energy sector

18.05.2026

Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas continues to confidently strengthen its position on the international educational and scientific arena, implementing strategic partnerships in the fields of energy, digital technologies, and sustainable development. Another confirmation of the university’s active international activities was an online meeting of representatives of the Department of Economic Development, Industry, and Infrastructure of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Lyudmila Petryshyn and Mariana Hurguli with scientists of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas.

During the meeting, the prospects for international cooperation in the field of energy were discussed, as well as the implementation of joint educational programs, scientific initiatives, and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s energy security.

Scientists at the university Vitaliy Tsykh T Marian Slabinoha presented a successful experience in implementing international projects in cooperation with partners from the UK. Special attention was paid to the development of a strategic partnership between IFNTUNG and London South Bank University – one of the leading universities in the United Kingdom in the field of engineering, technology, and applied sciences.

The cooperation between IFNTUNG and London South Bank University has been ongoing since 2022 and is already demonstrating significant results today. The universities are successfully implementing joint educational programs, including double degree programs, which open up new academic and professional opportunities for Ukrainian students, ensure integration into the international educational space, and contribute to the development of competitive professionals at the European level.

An important step in international cooperation was also the joining of the Twinning initiative, within which IFNTUNG and London South Bank University launched a modern master’s program “Information Technologies for Sustainable Energy Development”. Its creation is a response to the current challenges, when the digitization of the energy sector, energy security, and the implementation of sustainable development principles are of strategic importance for Ukraine and the world.

Today, the IT sector remains one of the most dynamic industries in the Ukrainian economy, and the combination of information technology with energy forms a fundamentally new direction in training professionals capable of working on the modernization of energy infrastructure, the implementation of “smart” energy systems, and innovative digital solutions.

The university not only adapts to global challenges, but also actively shapes a new model of modern technical education, oriented towards international standards, academic mobility, and practical interaction with foreign partners. It is thanks to such initiatives that IFNTUNG establishes itself as a powerful center of scientific thought, innovation, and international cooperation.

Of particular value is the fact that even in difficult conditions of wartime, the university continues to expand its international relations, draw upon foreign experience, and create new opportunities for students, faculty, and young researchers. This indicates a high level of trust from international partners in IFNTUNG and recognition of its scientific and educational potential at the international level.

Developing partnerships with British colleagues opens up new perspectives for joint research, exchange of experience, implementation of innovative technologies, and training of specialists who will be working on energy sustainability and rebuilding Ukraine today.
