Currently, enrollment in the master’s program is underway for those interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, but there are still a number of questions that concern all those interested in this new specialty. So we have summarized the most common ones and turned to the director of Institute of Information Technologies Ihor Liutak for explanations.

– First of all, Mr. Liutak, who will you be primarily expecting on the new educational program? Who will be able to master it?

-Understandably, the green light primarily goes to graduates specializing in “Information-measuring technologies” and IT professionals. However, there are excellent prospects for bachelor’s degree holders in other technical specialties as well.

Listeners of the program will be exposed to sustainable development economics, project management, and energy accounting and auditing. This raises the question of whether bachelor’s degrees in economics will be able to study successfully here.

– They will be able to, although it will be more difficult for them – they will have to delve into the technical specifics of processes with which they were not previously familiar. However, this is not a problem – for such master’s students, additional subjects are provided, which will be studied in Ukrainian. Meanwhile, everything else will be in English.

– Will Ukrainian teachers or British teachers be reading?

– Ukrainian and British teachers and representatives from the Quality Department will conduct continuous monitoring of our educational services. By the way, communication outside classes will be in Ukrainian. So if anyone has any questions, they can discuss them with the teacher separately.

– Knowledge of the English language is a mandatory requirement for all those applying for a place in the master’s program in “Information Technologies for Sustainable Development”…

-Exactly. But at the same time, it’s a great opportunity to master English at a level that will enable you to competeThen on the best vacancies at international companies. After all, in addition to purely professional vocabulary, which is powerfully developed over a year and a half, within the program there will be an additional course of communicative English for fluent communication not only in a professional environment. Imagine the time and cost savings! To achieve a similar result outside of the master’s degree, one would have to spend tens of thousands of hryvnias and a certain number of hours on language courses.

– Another common question among applicants. What will their work consist of in the future? Where will they be needed?

I will say right away: the need for such engineers is not just high, it is urgent! The prospects for the development of the energy sector in Ukraine can only be compared with the prospects of the construction industry. This is the alpha and omega of the country’s reconstruction! To make it clear, let me explain in a simplified way. Currently, energy supply in our state was built in the following way: generated electricity was supplied to large energy centers, which then distributed it to the regions. The war showed the vulnerability of this system. It is enough to hit a major energy hub – and a huge number of consumers are left without electricity supply.

However, there is another option – generating and distributing electricity in close proximity to the producer. This type of generation is already happening to a considerable extent, and is expected to grow even more. The most common option is solar panels. For example, Kyiv produces electricity through solar panels and consumes it in its own area. Any excess can be shared with neighboring areas. As a result, each community will soon have its own energy manager. These are professionals who essentially connect buyers and sellers, bypassing large energy centers. Their work is a trend of the near future: it can already be seen happening right now, even during times of war when entire energy platforms are being created. After the war, we will witness a huge development in the industry, similar to the rapid increase in humanity’s food needs. And experts who can distribute “energy food” will be worth their weight in gold. Therefore, it is crucial to catch the wave here.

– It’s actually a great wave for IT specialists who are currently facing a certain stagnation in the industry…

– Indeed, the war has caused a lot of damage to the IT industry. It is very difficult for newcomers to find their place here now – employers are avoiding business risks. On the other hand, there is a significant increase in grant applications in the energy sector, despite all the dangers.

– Am I correct in understanding that graduates who obtain education in the field of “Information Technologies for Sustainable Energy Development” will be in demand not only in Ukraine (especially in the post-war period) but also abroad?

-That’s right. After all, our state sees prospects in integration into the global world not only at the government level, but also at the business level. Partnerships are already being created that open up new horizons for us. And in such conditions, a new hyper-relevant specialty, supported by a diploma from the British university LSBU – a great opportunity for a brilliant career.

– By the way, will master’s students need to go somewhere or take additional subjects?

– All grades given here at IFNTUOG will be automatically recognized in London. So no additional confirmation is needed. Our program fully complies with British standards. There is no equivalent of higher education and similar in Ukraine anymore. Its launch is a level that would have been impossible to dream of without intergovernmental assistance to Ukraine from the United Kingdom.
